US 69 Jacksonville Relief Route

Project overview

As part of the Texas Trunk System and the National Highway System, US 69 services intrastate and interstate traffic, moving people and goods. The highway is also a designated hurricane evacuation route, which provides safe passage for the Gulf Cost region during an evacuation event.

Details

A 2018 Feasibility Study recommended a new location relief route on the city's west side. The recommendation reflected two potential tie-in points north of Jacksonville, while endorsing one southern connection at the existing Loop 456. These potential routes would advance into the next phase of development for further consideration.

In 2019, TxDOT kicked off its preliminary development for the US 69 relief route. This development phase warranted the most stringent environmental assessment called an Environmental Impact Statement. TxDOT held a public scoping meeting in November 2019 to present the preliminary schematic associated with the EIS.

Based on public feedback, TxDOT will not continue its development of a relief route concept nor will it pursue alternatives along the existing route at this time. Instead, available resources and funding will be directed to other priorities.
