SH 315 from US 259 to Panola County line

Project overview

The original proposed project along SH 315 from US 259 to the Panola County line, in Rusk County, Texas evaluated alternatives for widening the highway throughout the entire project limits. The current existing two-lane roadway includes two 12-foot travel lanes and two 8-foot shoulders. Proposed improvements would include a four-lane roadway with two 12-foot lanes and 10-foot shoulders in both directions separated by a median. The original proposed project required additional right-of-way that varied depending on alternatives presented at a public meeting with a virtual option starting on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2023

Based on public feedback opposing the proposed widening, the project as presented on Sept. 26, 2023, will not move forward. With additional safety considerations still needed, TxDOT will evaluate the State Highway intersections along the project limits for safety improvements. A separate safety project on SH 315 from US 259 to the Panola County line is currently underway and includes adding passing lanes along with constructing a 4-foot median. Once this project is completed additional steps will be made to improve additional intersections being evaluated. The intersections to be evaluated include:

  • SH 315 at US 259
  • SH 315 at FM 95
  • SH 315 at FM 840

We appreciate the community for taking part in the public meeting and providing comments which reflects in planning and implementation process of transportation projects.

Project purpose

The purpose of the proposed project is to increase the safety along the corridor and to update the roadway and intersections to current design standards.
