SH 36 from US 59 to FM 2218 - Rosenburg
The scope of this study is 2.8 miles of State Highway (SH) 36 from US 59 to Farm-to-Market (FM) 2218 in Rosenberg. This segment is part of a larger SH 36 corridor improvement effort.
Current conditions
SH 36 in this area is currently a 2-lane undivided roadway.
Proposed improvements
TxDOT is proposing to widen to a 4-lane roadway with median openings and turn lanes. The existing right-of-way is 100 feet in width and the acquisition of an additional 10 to 75 feet of approximate right-of-way is needed to accommodate the proposed improvements.
The purpose of these improvements is to:
- Improve the existing roadway facility and bridges with a safe, modern facility that meets current design standards
- Improve capacity to increase mobility given the projected population growth in the region; specifically north of the project corridor in Fort Bend County and south of the project corridor at the Port of Freeport in Brazoria County
- Improve safety by adding additional capacity during hurricane evacuations
- Improve intermodal relationships with the Port of Freeport
