US 77 from Harlingen to Corpus Christi

The Environmental Assessment (EA) and engineering schematic for the US 77 Upgrade Project from Harlingen to Corpus Christi were completed in 2012 and included a 25-year development plan. The 122-mile project corridor follows the existing US 77 alignment, except for the Driscoll and Riviera relief routes. The corridor was divided into sections based on funding and constructability. Construction of individual project sections is ongoing.

The purpose of the project is to improve safety for local and through traffic, enhance mobility, access, and connectivity, and support economic opportunities throughout the corridor. Improvements along the corridor also help advance the long-term goal of designating this section of US 77 as part of the Interstate 69 system.

Planned improvements

The project provides the following improvements:

  • A four-lane, divided highway
  • New overpasses, interchanges and frontage roads
  • Relief routes
