Purpose TxDOT is proposing to widen US 281 from US 84 (Evant, TX) to SH 6 (Hico, TX) in Hamilton County, Texas.
Description

The purpose of the widening project is to evaluate potential future capacity improvements to the US 281 corridor.
The widening concepts being explored would:

  • Widen US 281 to a 4-lane divided roadway
  • Include bicyclist accommodations

The Feasibility Study is evaluating Alternative Alignment concepts for a new location relief route located around the City of Hamilton to alleviate US 281 traffic congestion in downtown Hamilton.

New alignment and widening options would require additional right-of-way to accommodate the potential US 281 improvements and traffic congestion alleviation being explored by the project and the study. Further environmental studies would be needed to determine environmental impacts.

Accessibility The in-person and virtual public meeting will be conducted in English. If you need an interpreter or document translator because English is not your primary language or you have difficulty communicating effectively in English, one will be provided to you. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you need interpretation or translation services or you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend and participate in the virtual public meeting or in-person option, please contact the TxDOT Public Information Office at 254-867-2836 no later than 4 p.m. CT, Thursday, October 13, 2022.  Please be aware that advance notice is required as some services and accommodations may require time for TxDOT to arrange.
