TxDOT has created basic instructions in an effort to help the public understand the basics of participating in a virtual public meeting. Before viewing the presentation, click for English or Spanish to read through the instructions.
Purpose:
The purpose of the virtual meeting is to gather information from local stakeholders regarding the transit needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities in this area. The workshops will provide an opportunity to learn about the public transportation program from local transit providers. Information will be provided as to the local application process.
Description:
TxDOT is hosting a series of listening sessions regarding public transportation for seniors and individuals with disabilities in rural communities throughout the state. Public transportation provides mobility options, reduces traffic congestion, conserves fuel, improves air quality, reduces greenhouse gas emissions and supports emergency preparedness in the areas it serves.
TxDOT promotes and supports public transportation by collaborating with local governments, nonprofit entities and other transportation providers. TxDOT provides funding to assist the needs of seniors and persons with disabilities when current transportation service is unavailable, insufficient or inappropriate.
The federal Enhanced Mobility for Seniors and Individuals with Disabilities program provides funds for public transportation services aiding seniors and individuals with disabilities. The public is invited to provide input regarding local needs. Comments may be provided online, by email, or by mail by Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, as explained in the flyer. Comments can also be made by calling 512-585-3526 and leaving a voicemail message.
Special Accommodations:
The virtual public meeting will be conducted in English. If you need an interpreter or document translator because English is not your primary language or you have difficulty communicating effectively in English, one will be provided to you. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you need interpretation or translation services or you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend and participate in the virtual public meeting, please contact 512.243.4061 no later than 4 p.m. CT, Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020. Please be aware that notice is required as some services and accommodations may require time for TxDOT to arrange.
