Purpose:

Cameron County, in conjunction with the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority and TxDOT, is proposing to reconstruct and widen Old Alice Road within the cities of Los Fresnos and Brownsville, Cameron County, Texas from Sports Park Boulevard to SH 100, a distance of 4.9 miles. The existing two-lane rural roadway would be reconstructed and widened to a four-lane urban divided roadway with shoulders and sidewalks. The virtual public meeting will consist of a pre-recorded video presentation explaining the proposed project, which includes both audio and video components, along with other exhibits and materials for your review. The virtual public meeting materials will be posted to the Cameron County website and the TxDOT website on Aug. 11, 2020 and will remain available online through the comment period deadline of Aug. 26, 2020. If you do not have internet access, you may call (956) 247-3500 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to ask questions about the project and access project materials at any time during the project development process. Comments must be received on or before Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, to be a part of the official meeting record.

Description:

Old Alice Road consists of two 12-foot wide travel lanes with graded vegetated grass drainage ditches that run parallel on both sides of the roadway. The existing right of way (ROW) varies from 120-foot-wide to 150-foot wide throughout the length of the project. The proposed typical section consists of four 12-foot wide travel lanes, two 10-foot wide outside shoulders, eight-foot wide sidewalks, and a 16-foot wide center turning lane within the existing ROW. An underground storm water drainage system would be installed to provide for water run-off. No additional ROW would be required. The proposed project would involve construction in wetlands.

Special Accommodations:

TxDOT makes every reasonable effort to accommodate the needs of the public. The virtual public meeting will be in English and Spanish.
