Virtual details | The public information workshop materials will be posted here on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, by 5 p.m. If you do not have internet access, you may call the TxDOT Project Manager at 956-702-6195 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, to ask questions and access project materials during the project development process. |
In-person details | Thursday, Nov. 6, 2025 TxDOT is hosting a public information workshop for the South Padre Island Second Access Project. No formal presentation is planned. Community members are invited to come and go at their convenience. |
Purpose | The purpose of this workshop is to reintroduce and collect public input on this project to support the development of a Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement. TxDOT will share information on the project history and environmental studies currently underway, as well as show potential alternative connections from the Texas mainland to South Padre Island. |
Description | An environmental study is currently underway to explore alternate connections from the Texas mainland, across the Laguna Madre, to South Padre Island. The purpose of this project is to improve mobility and enhance public safety related to access to and from South Padre Island during an emergency evacuation. |
Accessibility | The virtual public information workshop and in-person option will be conducted in English. If you need an interpreter or document translator because English is not your primary language or you have difficulty communicating effectively in English, one will be provided post to you. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you need interpretation or translation services or you are a person with a disability who requires an accommodation to attend and participate in the virtual public information workshop or in-person option, please contact the TxDOT Public Involvement Specialist, Pharr District at 956-702-6161, no later than 4 p.m. CT, Friday, Oct. 31, 2025. Please be aware that advance notice is required as some services and accommodations may require time for the Texas Department of Transportation to arrange.
