US 69 center turn lane - Angelina County

Notice and opportunity to comment

Public comment deadline Comments must be received on or before Monday, April 10, 2023.
Purpose   The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing to widen US 69 south of Lufkin to provide a 16-foot continuous two-way left turn lane and 10-foot shoulders. The project extends from 0.9 mile north of FM 841 to 0.5 mile west of FM 1475. No roadway work or right of way is proposed for the portion of US 69 between FM 841 and FM 326 since it currently provides four 12-foot lanes of traffic (two eastbound and two westbound), a 16-foot continuous left turn lane and 10-foot outside shoulders. This notice is affording an opportunity to comment as part of the environmental review process for this project.
Description

The project will consist of a minor widening, the installation of a continuous two-way left turn lane and several bridge replacements. The project will extend for approximately 5.3 miles along US 69 from 0.9 miles north of FM 841 to 0.5 miles west of FM 1475.  The portion of US 69 between FM 841 and FM 326 is not in the project limits and no work will occur at this location. The existing facility present within the project area provides four 12-foot lanes of traffic (two eastbound and two westbound) with 10-foot shoulders on either side of the road before transitioning into a roadway that provides four 12-foot lanes of traffic (two eastbound and two westbound) with a 16-foot center left turn lane with 10-foot shoulders on either side of the road and finally the facility transfers back into a roadway with four 12-foot lanes of traffic (two eastbound and two westbound) with 8 foot shoulders on either side of the road.  Typical existing right-of-way width is 120-feet.

Although additional right of way would be required, no residential or non-residential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time.  Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners and information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition and construction can be obtained from the TxDOT Lufkin District Office by calling (936) 634-4433.
