Purpose The purpose of the meeting is to gather public input and provide information about the proposed reconstruction and improvements to SH 180/ Lancaster Avenue from I-35W to I-820 in Tarrant County, Texas.
Description

The proposed project is located on SH 180/East Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth, TX. It would extend for approx. 4.66 miles from I-35W to I- 820. The goal of this project is to enhance bicycle and pedestrian mobility and safety by widening sidewalks and constructing illuminated 8- to 12-foot wide shared-use paths (SUPs) along both sides of the roadway within various sections of the project limits. The SUPs width near Riverside Drive at the western project limit would transition to the existing sidewalk. The proposed project would reconstruct the six travel lanes to 11 feet wide and narrow the raised-curb median to accommodate the SUPs with minimal right-of-way acquisition. A 4- to 9-foot-wide buffer area on the outside of the roadway would continue to accommodate bus stops throughout the project corridor, with some bus stops potentially being relocated within the project corridor. To enhance safety and provide additional crossings for pedestrians, the project would install five new traffic signals at Hudson Street, Sanderson Avenue, Mount View Avenue, Roseland Street, and Grandview Drive.

 Additional improvements include:

  • An additional left-turn and right-turn lanes would be added to westbound SH 180 at the Riverside Drive intersection. A right-turn lane would be added to westbound SH 180 at the Edgewood Terrace intersection.
  • The Beach Street access roads would be rebuilt to a single 12-foot-wide lane in each direction with 6-foot-wide shoulders and a variable-width buffer on either side. The through lanes would be rebuilt to 11 feet wide each and have 1-foot-wide inside and outside shoulders.
  • The width of the sidewalks on both sides of Harwood Street would increase to 6 feet at the SH 180 underpass, and 8 feet on either side of the underpass.
  • All bridges along the corridor are anticipated to be replaced, along with the adjacent retaining walls. No height changes are anticipated.

Although minimal additional right of way would be required (0.02 acres), no residential or non-residential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time.

The proposed project is anticipated to impact the following properties protected under Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966: conjoined 1928/1938 bridges that carry SH 180/Lancaster Avenue over Sycamore Creek, the conjoined 1928/1932 bridges that carry SH 180/Lancaster Avenue over Conner Avenue, and the Bankhead Highway Historic District.
