Tornillo, TX 79853 (Map)

When:

Tuesday, January 15, 2019
5 p.m. - 7 p.m.

Purpose:

The purpose of the public meeting is to gather public input on the advance planning study of SH 20 (Texas/Alameda/Main) from SH 20 (Mesa Street) in El Paso to Shaffer Road in the Town of Tornillo. The public meeting will be conducted in an open house format. Those wishing to attend are encouraged to do so at their convenience. Displays will be available for review and comment and TxDOT staff will be available to answer questions. No formal presentation will be given.

Description:

The purpose of the study is to analyze and evaluate the current and future transportation needs for the SH 20 (Texas/Alameda/Main) corridor, gather feedback from stakeholders and the public, and develop a SH 20 (Alameda Avenue) Corridor Plan.

The study area includes 35 miles of the SH 20 (Texas/Alameda/Main) corridor and goes through urbanized and rural areas within El Paso County. The corridor also serves as one of the major east/west connections for various communities along its route.

The study will be conducted through a process of data collection, analysis of current and future transportation needs and public outreach. It will evaluate topics such as vehicle/pedestrian/bicycle safety, roadway capacity, traffic operations, drainage, placemaking and aesthetics, and multimodal access. The study will result in conceptual design recommendations for SH 20 (Texas/Alameda/Main) and short-, medium-, and long-term improvements that could be implemented over the next 20+ years. The findings of the study will be documented in a SH 20 (Alameda Avenue) Corridor Plan. More information about public involvement and the corridor study, as well as a link to the online engagement tool, may be found on the project page.
