Purpose TxDOT is proposing to construct a new interchange at US 281 at SH 71 in Burnet County. This notice advises the public that a draft environmental assessment (EA) is available for public review and that TxDOT will be conducting an online virtual public hearing on the proposed project with an in-person option.
Description Upgrades to the US 281 at SH 71 intersection will help improve safety and mobility. Proposed improvements include replacing the current cloverleaf interchange with a turbine interchange, adding elevated structures to improve mobility through the interchange, adding frontage roads to separate high-speed through traffic from local traffic, and adding shared-use paths to accommodate bicyclists and pedestrians.
Accessibility

The virtual public hearing and in-person option will be conducted in English. If you need an interpreter or document translator because English is not your primary language or you have difficulty communicating effectively in English, one will be provided to you. If you have a disability and need assistance, special arrangements can be made to accommodate most needs. If you need interpretation or translation services or you are a person with a disability who requires accommodation to attend and participate in the public hearing, please contact Mitzi Ellison at 512-761-2711, no later than 4 p.m. CT, Friday, April 25, 2025. Please be aware that advance notice is required as some services and accommodation may require time for the TxDOT to arrange.
