Project Overview

TxDOT is developing preliminary plans for the expansion of FM 756 from Jeff Davis Drive, south to FM 344. The scope includes expanding the existing two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided highway with a continuous left-turn lane.  Proposed improvements also include an overpass and ramps at the intersection of FM 346.

Details

Proposed enhancements to this heavily traveled corridor include:

  • Widening from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane facility with a flush median
  • Redesigning roadway alignment to improve grades and curves
  • Designing a grade-separated interchange at  FM 756  and FM 346. The current proposal shows FM 756 bridging over FM 346.

This project will require the acquisition of additional right of way.

Schedule

TxDOT began developing the project’s schematic design and environmental assessment in November 2017. The first public meeting was held on Jan. 15, 2019. Three alternatives were presented to the public for comments and feedback. The second public meeting was held on June 25, 2019. The recommended alternative was presented to the public for comments and feedback.  The recommended alternative, shown at the second public meeting, is available below.

TxDOT is taking public comments regarding the recommended alternative through July 11, 2019. Based on feedback, the team will develop a preferred alternative, which will be presented at the public hearing.

The project is expected to be constructed in three phases. Phase 1 extends from Jeff Davis Drive south to FM 346. Phase 2 extends from FM 346 south to FM 344 in the City of Bullard. Phase 3 involves the construction of a grade-separated interchange at FM 346 and FM 756.

The next steps in project development include the following:

  • Public hearing is tentatively planned for the first quarter of 2020
  • Begin right-of-way acquisition is expected to begin by the end of 2020
  • Phase 1 construction is tentatively schedule for2022, pending available funding
  • Phases 2 & 3 are not currently funded
