FM 2493 - Flint to Bullard

Overview

TxDOT is developing plans for improvements to FM 2493 (Old Jacksonville Highway). Several projects are currently underway along the approximately 14-mile corridor, which stretches from Loop 323 in the city of Tyler to US 69 south of the city of Bullard. Although the projects are being developed independently and are in various stages of completion, rigorous efforts are being made to coordinate the projects and ensure a consistent approach.

Proposal

TxDOT’s preliminary plans for FM 2493 from FM 346 in Flint to US 69 south of Bullard include:

• Widening from a two-lane road to a four-lane divided highway with curb and gutter
• Adding a continuous center left-turn lane to provide additional safety for drivers
• Incorporating sidewalks and bicycle lanes for pedestrians and cyclists, where applicable
• Realigning FM 2493 with FM 2493-E at US 69 and constructing a grade-separated interchange

The project requires the acquisition of a new right of way from adjacent property owners.

Schedule

Two public meetings were held to present alternatives for this project. The first was held on May 12, 2016 and the second meeting on May 7, 2017. A Meeting with Affected Property Owners was held on Nov. 28, 2017, to show revisions to the existing ROW. The final recommended alignment and draft environmental assessment were presented for public comment at a public hearing on Nov. 15, 2018.

The environmental assessment examines potential project-related impacts as well as measures to avoid, minimize or mitigate those impacts. The environmental assessment will be subject to an extensive review process and coordination with agencies such as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, the Texas Historical Commission, and others.

TxDOT received the project's Finding of No Significant Impact, better known as environmental clearance, on April 24, 2019. The next steps are right-of-way acquisitions and the development of construction plans. Right-of-way acquisition is expected to begin by Summer 2019. Construction is anticipated to begin in 2021, pending available funding.
