I-20 Benbrook Project

The Texas Department of Transportation is planning safety and mobility improvements to I-20 in Benbrook from Winscott Road to Bryant Irvin Road. The 1-mile proposed project includes adding one auxiliary lane in each direction to address weaving and congestion issues near entrance and exit ramps at an estimated cost of $22 million.

Auxiliary Lanes

Auxiliary lanes, or extended entrance/exit lanes, are elongated ramps that serve as an additional lane to give drivers more distance to enter and exit the roadway. Drivers have more time to adjust to the proper speed before merging. This reduces the number of conflicts between slow speed and higher speed vehicles and allows for improved traffic flow.

Public Involvement

Working closely with stakeholders throughout the project is important to TxDOT. Public input will be considered as TxDOT moves forward in developing a plan that will enhance safety and mobility in the area. An open house meeting was held to share project information and updates, present proposed schematics, and collect input from the community.
