I-20 Benbrook Project

TxDOT is implementing safety and mobility improvements to I-20 in Benbrook from Winscott Road to Bryant Irvin Road. The one-mile project will add one auxiliary lane in each direction to address weaving and congestion issues near entrance and exit ramps. The project was awarded to Ragle Construction, Inc. in April 2020 for $21 million. It is estimated for completion in 2022.

Auxiliary Lanes

Auxiliary lanes, or extended entrance/exit lanes, are elongated ramps that serve as an additional lane to give drivers more distance to enter and exit the roadway. Drivers have more time to adjust to the proper speed before merging. This reduces the number of conflicts between slow speed and higher speed vehicles and allows for improved traffic flow.
