I-20 Benbrook Project
The Texas Department of Transportation is planning safety and mobility improvements to Interstate 20 in Benbrook from Winscott Road to Bryant Irvin Road. The 1-mile project includes adding one auxiliary lane in each direction to address weaving and congestion issues near entrance and exit ramps. The estimated cost is $22 million.
The design process for this project has started, and a public meeting is expected to be held by mid-2018.
Auxiliary lanes, or extended entrance/exit lanes, are elongated ramps that serve as an additional lane to give drivers more distance to enter and exit the roadway. Drivers have more time to adjust to the proper speed before merging. This reduces the number of conflicts between slow speed and higher speed vehicles and allows for improved traffic flow.
The public may check TxDOT's public meetings and hearings page for upcoming meetings.
