The Texas Department of Transportation Beaumont District is proposing to reconstruct FM 565 from SH 99 to SH 146 on the east side of Baytown in Chambers County, Texas.

Proposed Benefits

The proposed project is anticipated to improve safety, enhance mobility and reduce congestion.

Proposed Improvements

The approximately 2.9 mile project includes:

  • Reconstructing and widening FM 565 from a two-lane rural roadway to a four-lane divided suburban roadway with a 16-foot center two-way left-turn lane and 10-foot shoulders between SH 99 and SH 146
  • Building an overpass bridge at the FM 565 and Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) intersection to eliminate the at-grade crossing
  • Relocating the existing FM 1405 intersection to the north of its current location
  • No sidewalks are proposed as part of the project

The project would require additional right of way from SH 146 to FM 1405; exact amount of right of way has yet to be determined.  The project costs approximately $39 million.

In addition, the public may also learn more about the FM 565 “S-Curve” project – a nearby project that’s currently underway. The FM 565 “S-Curve” project proposes to realign and eliminate the “S” curve to meet current design standards, from approximately 1.02 miles west of FM 2354 to 0.36 miles east of FM 1405.
