The virtual public meeting will be available beginning on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2020, by 3 p.m. and will be available online through the comment period deadline of Friday, Dec. 4, 2020.

Purpose:
TxDOT is holding a virtual public meeting to receive input on proposed improvements to the US 290/SH 36 interchange in Brenham, Washington County, Texas. The US 290/SH 36 interchange is one of the busiest in Washington County and it serves as an important local, regional and statewide roadway connection. The proposed project would improve safety, reduce congestion, maintain connectivity and improve mobility. Several concepts are currently under consideration and TxDOT seeks your input on these concepts. Project staff will give a pre-recorded presentation regarding the project with both audio and visual components. Formal comments may be provided by mail or email as described in the notice. All comments must be received on or before Friday, Dec. 4, 2020.
Description:
The primary focus of the proposed project is to construct a new interchange that will provide a continuous US 290 route, maintain two lanes in each direction and maintain access to local roads. Three concepts were originally presented to the combined Brenham City Council/Washington County Commissioners Court in March 2019. TxDOT continued to analyze the interchange resulting in two additional concepts and a modification of one of the original concepts for a total of five concepts that will be presented. All concepts include: (i) expanding US 290/SH 36 connection from one to two lanes; (ii) completing conversion to one-way frontage roads; (iii) updating entrance and exit ramps to current standards; and (iv) accommodating bicyclists and pedestrians within urban settings.
The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right of way and potential displacements. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program, services and benefits for those displaced, and other affected property owners, as well as information about the tentative schedule for right of way acquisition and construction, can be obtained from the TxDOT district office by calling (979) 213-7591.
