Purpose:
TxDOT is conducting a public meeting to receive input about a potential relief route around Jewett. The meeting will be held in an open house format so the public can come and go at their convenience. No formal presentation is planned. Maps showing proposed alternatives will be on display and TxDOT staff will be available to discuss the project. Comments about this project may be made at the meeting or in writing by Friday, April 10, 2020.
Description:
Currently, US 79 through Jewett consists of two 12-foot travel lanes with 10-foot outside shoulders and a 14-foot center turn lane. The proposed relief route alternative would provide two 12-foot wide travel lanes in each direction separated by a grassy median. The travel lanes would be bounded by four-foot wide inside and 10-foot wide outside shoulders with grade A separation at US 79 and FM 39. The proposed through town alternative would provide two 12-foot wide travel lanes in each direction with a continuous 16-foot two way left turn lane. The construction letting date for the proposed project is anticipated for Sept. 2025.
The proposed project would require the acquisition of right of way and the amount is being determined. Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners may be obtained at the meeting and from the district office at the address listed below.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 9, 2019, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
