Open House - Railroad Crossing Safety Improvements

Purpose:

The purpose of the open house will be dedicated to participant review of exhibits, asking questions, and providing comments on the proposed project. Staff will be available to answer questions and take comments. Written comments must be postmarked by Wednesday, August 28, 2019 to be included in the open house documentation.

Description:

The project proposes safety upgrades/ pedestrian improvements and connectivity to the following roadways crossing the Union Pacific Railroad: Pioneer Drive, Leggett Drive, Willis Street, Shelton Street, Sayles Boulevard, Grape Street, and T&P Lane. As part of the safety improvements, Sayles Boulevard will be realigned with Graham Street and the Victoria Street crossing will be permanently closed. There are no anticipated relocations of existing businesses or residences. 

Special Accommodation:

TxDOT makes every reasonable effort to accommodate the needs of the public. The public meeting will be conducted in English. Persons interested in attending who have special communication needs or needs an interpreter, are encouraged to contact the TxDOT Abilene District Public Information Office at (325) 643-0413.  Requests should be made at least two business days prior to the public meeting.

Memorandum of Understanding:

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
