The current version of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (TMUTCD) is Revision 2 of the 2011 TMUTCD. TMUTCD 2011, Revision 2, became effective on October 9, 2014, and remains effective through January 17, 2026. See links to the 2011 TMUTCD – revision 2 below.

The 2025 TMUTCD was adopted into state law by the Texas Transportation Commission on November 13, 2025, with an effective date of January 18, 2026. The 2025 TMUTCD was revised based upon the new national MUTCD, 11th Edition, and Texas state laws and practices. The national MUTCD was published in the Federal Register on December 19, 2023, with an effective date of January 18, 2024. Texas had two years (24 months) from the national MUTCD effective date to adopt the new TMUTCD. A virtual Public Hearing was held with a public comment period between July 4, 2025 through September 2, 2025. An in-person Public Hearing was also held on August 7, 2025.

TxDOT continues to work with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Texas Division to resolve a few pending items originally published in the Texas Register on July 4, 2025 and updated on November 28, 2025 (see page 7735 of the Texas Register, November 28, 2025). Resolution of these items is expected to occur by the next TMUTCD revision that addresses the MUTCD 11th Edition Known Errors, pending FHWA’s planned action on the known errors.
