TxDOT Encourages Customers To Pay Overdue Toll Bills Before Late Fees Resume This Fall

TxTag and Pay By Mail customers can avoid late fees by paying balances by Aug. 31

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Transportation is encouraging its toll road customers with overdue toll charges to pay their balances by Aug. 31, 2016 to avoid possible late fees and additional penalties.

In February 2015, TxDOT suspended late fees on unpaid tolls as the agency migrated to a new billing system. During the suspension, unpaid tolls did not accumulate additional fees; however, customers continued to receive monthly statements for unpaid tolls as a reminder they still owed money for driving on toll roads (SH 130, SH 45N, SH 45SE, Loop 1, Grand Parkway and SH 255).

In September 2016, TxDOT plans to resume late fees for unpaid tolls. At that time, customers with overdue tolls will see their transactions move to the next stage in the late fee process and begin accruing additional fees for lack of payment. Below is an example of how an unpaid toll is escalated:

TxDOT is committed to helping customers settle their accounts. Customers will receive a notice in their statements about toll late fees resuming and TxDOT will temporarily expand its TxTag call center and storefront hours until 7 p.m. Monday – Friday, and open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to better serve customers. Toll bills can be paid online at TxTag.org or by calling the TxTag Customer Service Center at (888) 468-9824.
