Transportation Forum to Address Innovative Solutions for Texas Traffic, Growth Challenges, Infrastructure
Registration now open for Jan. 6-8 conference featuring U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx
AUSTIN — As part of an ongoing effort to keep pace with a booming population and the ever-growing demand on statewide roadways, the Texas Department of Transportation welcomes U.S. Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx along with transportation experts, government leaders and others to the 9th Annual Texas Transportation Forum in San Antonio, Jan. 6-8. The forum addresses infrastructure strategies, traffic management solutions and other transportation challenges.
“Our growing population coupled with the sheer size of Texas requires innovative thinking to find the most economic and efficient solutions to complex transportation challenges,” said Phil Wilson, TxDOT executive director. “Those solutions also must place the highest priority on public safety and long-term reliability. The Texas Transportation Forum is the premier venue for merging the present and future needs of Texas drivers with the technology and engineering that can support and enhance those demands.”
Topics being discussed at the 2014 Texas Transportation Forum include:
- Responding to emergency events in the aftermath of disasters
- How new transportation technologies are making our lives easier
- Increasing Texas tourism
Secretary Foxx brings a national perspective to ensuring that America maintains the safest, most efficient transportation system in the world. Foxx leads an agency with more than 55,000 employees and a $70 billion budget that oversees air, maritime and surface transportation.
Other scheduled speakers include Glen Hiemstra, founder and owner of Futurist.com; Adrian Moore, vice president of policy at the Reason Foundation; Kurt Schwartz, Homeland Security and emergency management director for the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency; Col. Len Waterworth, executive director of the Port of Houston; and Erik Hansen, director of domestic policy for the U.S. Travel Association.
