TxDOT Partners with NTT Data; Embraces Role of Technology in Leading Transportation Development
New Partnership Designed to Enhance IT Capabilities and Develop IT Workforce
AUSTIN – In an effort to improve efficiency and increase capabilities for information technology (IT) support, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has signed a contract with NTT DATA to privatize functions of its IT organization. The goal of the partnership is to provide better tools, better service and lower the overall risk to the department. All current TxDOT IT employees will be offered positions with NTT DATA for at least 6 months, or in a retained TxDOT IT organization.
This partnership is the result of a rigorous year long process that began with the development of an IT strategy to respond to specific needs. The extensive selection process for an IT partner began in January, with a Request for Offer (RFO) and proceeded with interviews and negotiations. This process was run in parallel with employee led transformation initiatives, or "self help" projects.
NTT DATA will assume responsibility for providing support for application maintenance and development, customer support, network and telecommunications systems support, professional support services, and IT security. Further, NTT DATA will modernize process and technologies needed to support TxDOT business operations. This partnership will help TxDOT realize greater efficiencies and allow the agency to reinvest savings into other strategic priorities.
“TxDOT has an opportunity to have a robust and modern IT function that will make us more productive and provide the necessary tools and capabilities for our team to be successful," said Phil Wilson, Executive Director of TxDOT. “This new partnership will make TxDOT IT more efficient, so we can better serve our employees, the taxpayers, and the state of Texas."
"We are excited with our partnership with TxDOT and look forward to leveraging our expertise and rich history for high-quality services to help the agency meet its long-term goals,” said John McCain, President and CEO, NTT DATA. “We share a common objective with TxDOT to bring improved services to its employees and the citizens of the state of Texas.”
Plano, Texas based NTT DATA, Inc. is part of a professional services organization that is a global leader in providing IT services to organizations around the world. Employees joining this team will join around 18,000 other employees with deep industry experience. TxDOT employees joining NTT DATA will benefit through expanded career opportunities as part of a global leader in IT services.
