New Speed Limits for US 183 and SH 130 Frontage Roads

Newly completed studies allow for increased speeds

AUSTIN – Traffic has stabilized on the newly-opened segments of U.S. 183 and SH 130 frontage roads (from Mustang Ridge to Lockhart) and the Texas Department of Transportation has completed its speed studies there. Today, the Texas Transportation Commission approved the new speed limits that will be posted for drivers in the near future.

“It is important that motorists realize safety is our top priority,’ said Phil Wilson TxDOT executive director. “We have gone to great lengths to implement all safety precautions in setting speed limits on these roadway segments. We encourage motorists to travel these and all Texas roads observing posted speed limits, avoiding distractions, buckling seatbelts and driving to conditions.”

The new speed limits are as follows for U.S. 183 and the frontage roads of SH 130:

  • 5.3 miles of U.S. 183 from SH 45 to south of Mustang Ridge = 60 mph (up from 55 mph)
  • 6.1 miles of U.S. 183 from Mustang Ridge to Lockhart = 65 mph (up from 55mph)
  • 5.9 miles of SH 130 FR around and south of Lockhart = 65 mph (up from 50 mph)
