Traffic shift scheduled for Upland Avenue

All traffic to be placed on new lanes

LUBBOCK –Upland Avenue drivers can expect changes this week along the project limits as crews shift traffic onto the newly constructed northbound lanes. Starting Thursday, July 24, all traffic will be shifted onto the northbound lanes. Traffic will remain one lane in each direction.

The traffic change will allow crews to begin work on rebuilding the southbound lanes, install traffic signals and construct a shared-use path on the western side of the project.

Drivers are reminded that the speed limit through the work zone has been reduce to 40 mph.

Work is part of a project that is making major improvements to Upland Avenue, from 66th Street to 82nd Street, in Lubbock. The $19 million, city of Lubbock project will completely rebuild the existing roadway from a two-lane roadway to a five-lane thoroughfare with two lanes of traffic in each direction and a continuous left-turn lane. The project is anticipated to be completed in late-summer 2025.
