Weekend traffic switch set for March 27 on I-10 White Oak Bayou project; motorists should expect delays

HOUSTON– As part of ongoing construction, TxDOT crews will implement a traffic switch with multiple closures as work advances to Phase I, Step 4A of the I-10 White Oak Bayou Elevation Project, beginning 10:00 PM Fri., March 27.

During this phase, the westbound Taylor Street exit ramp is scheduled to open Mon., March 30, 2026, operating as a single lane on the newly constructed bridge and pavement. At the same time, the westbound exit ramp to Heights Boulevard will be closed until an estimated mid-2026.

Additionally, there will be the demolition of the temporary Heights Boulevard exit ramp and reconstruction of the westbound mainlanes at the western end of the project.

The closures are as follows:

Total closure of the I-10 westbound frontage road from Studemont St. to Heights Blvd. beginning 10:00 PM, Fri., March 27 to 5:00 A.M., Monday, March 30.

  • Motorists traveling northbound will continue on Studemont Street. Turn left onto White Oak Drive, take a left onto Heights Boulevard. Turn right onto the westbound frontage road to access the IH-10 westbound mainlanes.
  • Motorists traveling southbound will continue along Studemont Street. Take a right onto Washington Avenue, a right onto Heights Boulevard. Take a left onto the westbound frontage road to access the IH-10 westbound mainlanes.

Total closure of the I-10 westbound Exit Ramp To Heights Blvd, beginning 10:00 PM, Friday, March 27 until further notice.

  • All traffic must exit at the next ramp to Patterson St, then perform a U-turn at the intersection. Continue along the eastbound frontage road to access Heights Blvd/Yale St.

This $400 million project will raise the elevation of the I-10 mainlanes above the floodplain of White Oak Bayou from Heights Boulevard to I-45 including the reconstruction of the I-10 HOV lanes, and reconstruction of the Houston Avenue Bridge.

While we will continue to make outstanding progress as this project continues, during construction, drivers are advised to follow posted detour signs and remain vigilant of changing traffic patterns. Patience and caution will be essential to ensure safety as construction advances.

Also be sure to visit the project website. For additional closures and detour information, visit Houston TranStar and follow TxDOT Houston on X, Facebook, Instagram and Threads for roadway updates and information. Closures are subject to change due to weather.
