Loop 1604 from US 90 to I-35

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is proposing to widen Loop 1604 from US-90 to IH-35, in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. The proposed project would expand Loop 1604 from a 2-lane rural roadway to 4-lane divided freeway section with shoulders and pedestrian accommodations within existing ROW.

Additional bridge structures over the Quintana/Union Pacific Railroad, the Medina River, and Nelson Road/Macdona-Lacoste Road/Union Pacific Railroad would be constructed as well as a new grade-separation at FM 2536 (Old Pearsall Road). The project is approximately 6.9 miles long. The purpose of the project is to improve mobility along Loop 1604 in anticipation of future growth and increased traffic.

The project would be constructed within the existing state owned right of way (ROW) which has a minimum width of 300 feet. There would be no ROW acquisition needed nor any residential or non-residential displacements as a result of the proposed project. The project would cross floodplains and waters of the US and would include features designed to mitigate impacts to these resources.

The environmental review, consultation and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
