San Angelo North Relief Route

A relief route around the City of San Angelo was identified for potential use in the Ports-to-Plains and I-14 corridors.

Proposed project

The proposed project would extend for approximately 11 miles on new location between US 87 and US 67 north of San Angelo. The project would evaluate alignment alternatives for a 500-foot-wide right of way (ROW) within a 1,200-foot-wide study corridor. The proposed roadway would consist of three mainlanes in each direction with two-lane frontage roads on either side and would include interchanges at US 87, US 277, and US 67, as well as grade-separated intersections at other state and local roads.

The map at the right shows the project study corridor. No proposed ROW has been determined at this time.

Purpose and need

The purpose of the project is to provide an alternative freight route, reduce congestion, enhance mobility, and improve safety through the City of San Angelo and Tom Green County.
