US 77 Riviera Relief Route (Future I-69 Corridor)
The Texas Department of Transportation's Corpus Christi District is upgrading US 77 to interstate standards from 1.5 miles north of SH 285 to the Kenedy County line at Los Olmos Creek in Kleberg County.
Project improvements
The project would construct a 4-lane divided freeway on new location east of Riviera. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and mobility and to continue to upgrade the US 77 corridor as part of the future Interstate 69 (I-69) highway system. The project is approximately 5.5 miles in length and extends from 1.5 miles north of SH 285 to the Kenedy County line at Los Olmos Creek. The bridge at Los Olmos Creek will be widened.
The project will construct a controlled-access facility, meaning there will be main lanes with frontage roads and on and off ramps. Overpasses will be constructed at CR 2295, CR 2380 E, FM 771 and CR 2340 on the new US 77 location freeway. Once completed, existing US 77 through Riviera would become Business (BUS) 77 and would continue to be a state-maintained roadway.
Project updates
Preliminary design, environmental studies and public engagement stages have been completed. All needed right-of-way (ROW) has been acquired.
Construction is anticipated to begin in fall of 2025. Temporary road closures may be required during construction. The project is anticipated to take 4 – 5 years to construct.
Project history
