SH 123/SH 80 Widening Project

TxDOT is proposing to widen SH 123/SH 80 from the intersection of SH 80 and SH 123 to BU 181 in Karnes City, Texas.

The proposed project would widen the roadway to include a continuous center turn lane (varying in width between 14 and 16 feet), 12-foot travel lane, 14-foot outer travel lane in each direction, and six-foot sidewalks or 10-foot shared-use path. Currently, SH 123/SH 80 includes an existing section with two travel lanes in each direction and a center turn lane. The roadway in this section would be widened to accommodate wider lanes and sidewalks or a shared-use path.

At the southern end of the project, from approximately 0.2 miles south of East Main Avenue to just north of the intersection of US 181 and SH 80/ SH 123, the existing two-lane roadway would be widened to four lanes (two in each direction) with a continuous center turn lane, shoulders, and sidewalks.

Additionally, the roadway south of East Main Avenue was historically lowered to allow for a railroad overpass. To improve drainage in this area, the area would be filled and the roadway would be elevated.
