Purpose

TxDOT is conducting a Feasibility Study to evaluate Alternative Alignments for a new location roadway (Relief Route) around the City of Hamilton in Hamilton County, Texas. TxDOT is also proposing to widen US 281 from US 84 (Evant, TX) to SH 6 (Hico, TX) in Hamilton County.

Description

The feasibility study is evaluating Alternative Alignment concepts for a new location relief route located around the City of Hamilton to alleviate US 281 traffic congestion in downtown Hamilton.

The widening project would evaluate potential future capacity improvements to the US 281 corridor. The project would be approximately 37 miles long from Evant, TX to Hico, TX. The widening concepts being explored would widen US 281 to a four-lane divided roadway with bicyclist and pedestrian accommodations. New alignment and widening options would require additional right of way to accommodate the potential US 281 improvements and traffic congestion alleviation being explored by the project and the study. Further environmental studies would be needed to determine environmental impacts.
