| Purpose | To receive public comment on amendments to Chapter 7 rules concerning the State Safety Oversight Program. |
| Description | The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) amended 49 U.S.C § 5329(d) and (k) to add additional requirements related to rail agency safety committees, training requirements, and public transportation agency safety plan contents. Most significantly, it directs the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) to require each State Safety Oversight Agency (SSOA) to develop and implement a risk-based inspection (RBI) program. |
