| Purpose | The City of Edinburg, in cooperation with TxDOT is proposing to widen and reconstruct Freddy Gonzalez Drive from BUS 281 (Closner Boulevard) to I-69C in Hidalgo County, Texas. |
| Description | The scope of the proposed project includes the widening and reconstruction of 1.13 miles of the existing four-lane urban roadway to four 11 foot-wide travel lanes, a 12 foot-wide continuous left turn lane, a five-foot-wide sidewalk on one side of the roadway, and a 10 foot-wide shared use path on the opposite side of the roadway within a usual 85-footwide right-of-way (ROW). Drainage would be provided by a storm drain system. The project would include approximately 0.1 mile of incidental construction west of BUS 281 and would improve the intersection alignment at Veterans Boulevard. The proposed project would require 0.02 acres of new ROW. Although additional right of way would be required, no residential or non-residential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time. Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners and information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition and construction can be obtained from the City of Edinburg office by calling 956-388-8211. The proposed project would require the adjustment of portions of the existing Freddy Gonzalez Hike and Bike Trail within the existing ROW to accommodate the roadway widening. No impacts to the form and function of the trail are anticipated; therefore, the city anticipates this meets with an exception under Section 4(f) of the Department of Transportation Act of 1966. Any environmental documentation or studies, maps and drawings showing the project location and design, tentative construction schedules, and other information regarding the proposed project are on file and available for inspection Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the City of Edinburg’s Engineering Department located at 415 W. University Drive, Edinburg, TX. Please call 956-388-8211 to set up an appointment to view materials. Project materials are also available online. |
