Purpose

Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority (CCRMA), in cooperation with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), Cameron County, and the City of San Benito, is proposing to widen and reconstruct FM 1846 (Oscar Williams Road) from Business 77 to San Jose Ranch Road in Cameron County, Texas. This notice advises the public that TxDOT will be conducting an online virtual public meeting on the proposed project with an in-person option.

Description

The scope of the proposed project would include widening 1.62 miles of the existing two-lane rural roadway to four lanes within a proposed 140-foot-wide right of way (ROW). The proposed 82-foot-wide roadway would consist of four 12-foot-wide travel lanes, a 14-foot-wide continuous left turn lane, two 10-foot-wide shoulders, and a 10-foot-wide shared use path on one side of the roadway. Drainage would be handled by roadside ditches. An asphalt overlay would be included as part of the proposed project. Approximately 0.1 miles of incidental construction would occur north of San Jose Ranch Road to ensure proper roadway transition. The proposed project is anticipated to require 6.95 acres of new ROW. The proposed project would involve an action in a floodplain. No wetlands or Section 4(f) properties are anticipated in the project area.

The project is located in a suburban area within the City of San Benito. The project site is surrounded by residences and some businesses. Vegetation in the area is suburban, mowed and maintained with some agricultural land. There are neither historical properties nor known cemeteries in or near the project area.

Although additional right of way would be required, no residential or non-residential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time. Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners and information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition and construction can be obtained from the CCRMA office by calling 956-621-5573.

Any environmental documentation or studies, maps and drawings showing the project location and design, tentative construction schedules, and other information regarding the proposed project are on file and available for inspection Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the CCRMA office located at 3461 Carmen Ave., Rancho Viejo, Texas. Please call prior to schedule an appointment.
