Purpose
TxDOT is conducting a virtual public meeting with in-person option. In-person attendees will be able to view the same materials shared in the virtual public meeting, review hard copies of project materials, ask questions of TxDOT staff and/or consultants and leave written comments.
Description

TxDOT is proposing improvements to US 59 that would upgrade the highway to interstate standards. This would include constructing frontage roads and reconstructing US 59 mainlanes from approximately 0.2 miles north of Farm-to-Market (FM) 223 (Church Street) to north of the Trinity River in San Jacinto and Polk counties, Texas. Proposed improvements would also include construction of new Trinity River bridges with turnarounds (U-turn) and an overpass at FM 1127. The proposed project runs approximately six miles and extends from Shepherd, Texas in San Jacinto County to north of the Trinity River in Polk County. The proposed project is anticipated to enhance safety, improve mobility, provide a more efficient hurricane evacuation route and provide system connectivity to I-69.

The proposed project includes the following:

  • Reconstruction of US 59 mainlanes
  • Construction of two-lane northbound and southbound frontage roads
  • Construction of new bridges over the Trinity River with turnarounds (U-turns)
  • Construction of an overpass with U-turns at FM 1127
