| Purpose | Fort Bend County, in collaboration with TxDOT, is proposing improvements at the intersection of Farm-to-Market (FM) 1093 and FM 1489 in Fort Bend County, Texas. |
| Description | The proposed project would improve and reconstruct the intersection of FM 1093 and FM 1489. Currently, the intersection at FM 1093 and FM 1489 consists of two T-intersections separated by a short distance (Simonton Road). The existing intersection can be confusing for some drivers and is inadequate to accommodate the area's projected growth and development. The project team has developed alternatives to reconfigure the intersection to increase operational efficiency, reduce driver confusion and accommodate projected growth. The purpose of the meeting is to present the proposed alternatives and request feedback from the community. The proposed alternatives include: Proposed Alternative 1: reconfigure the intersection from two-lanes to four-lanes (two in each direction), to a traditional traffic-signal controlled intersection. Traditional U-turns would be constructed east of the intersection to provide east bound traffic access to the north side of FM 1093 and west of the intersection to provide west bound traffic access to the south side of FM 1093. Proposed Alternative 2: reconfigure the intersection from two-lanes to four-lanes (two in each direction), to a “dog-bone” roundabout at the intersection. A second, traditional roundabout would be constructed east of the intersection to provide east bound traffic access to the north side of FM 1093 and a traditional U-turn west of the intersection to provide west bound traffic access to the south side of FM 1093. Although additional right-of-way (ROW) would be required for either alternative, no residential or non-residential structures are anticipated to be displaced at this time. Information concerning services and benefits available to affected property owners and information about the tentative schedule for ROW acquisition may be obtained from the Fort Bend County Engineering Department by contacting the Special Projects Coordinator at 281-342-3411 or by email as shown in the notice. Any environmental documentation or studies, maps and drawings showing the project location and design, tentative construction schedules, and other information regarding the proposed project are on file and available for review by appointment Monday through Friday at the Fort Bend County Engineering Office located at 301 Jackson St., 4th Floor, Richmond, TX 77469 by calling 281-633-7500. |
