| Purpose | TxDOT, Houston District, is proposing a new north-south highway from FM 1994 south of Needville to Interstate I-10 west of Katy in Fort Bend and Waller Counties, Texas. |
| Description | The proposed 36A South project would construct a new location highway to improve north-south mobility and connectivity in the area. The proposed highway would be approximately 41 miles in length and consist of four 12-foot-wide travel lanes, two in each direction, separated by a 64-foot-wide grassy median with 6-foot-wide inside shoulders and 10-foot-wide outside shoulders. A 10-foot-wide shared use path would be constructed for pedestrians, cyclists, and non-motorized users. Three alternatives are currently being considered for the proposed project, Reasonable Alternatives 4, 8A, and 9. Locations of the three alternatives under consideration can be seen in both the virtual public meeting and in-person open house materials. The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional ROW. Reasonable Alternative 4 would require approximately 3,091 acres of proposed right of way (ROW) and would potentially displace 23 residences and 2 non-residential structures. Reasonable Alternative 8A would require approximately 2,659 acres of proposed ROW and would potentially displace 36 residences and 6 non-residential structures. Reasonable Alternative 9 would require approximately 1,295 acres of proposed ROW and would potentially displace 25 residences and 8 non-residential structures. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program and services and benefits for those displaced and other affected property owners, as well as information about the tentative schedule for ROW acquisition, may be obtained from the TxDOT Right-of-Way project manager by calling 713-802-5740. The proposed project would involve construction in wetlands. and action in a floodplain.
