Purpose:

TxDOT is proposing improvements to the overpasses on State Highway 35 at Corpus Christi Street in Aransas County, Texas and at Oak Lane in San Patricio and Aransas County, Texas. The purpose of the virtual public meeting is to present the proposed improvements and to gather public input. The virtual public meeting will consist of a pre-recorded video presentation including audio and visual components and will be available on the website until Friday, June 11, 2021. All comments must be received on or before Friday, June 11, 2021, to be part of the official public meeting record.

Description:

The proposed projects would construct overpasses within the existing SH 35 grassy median. Following the construction of the overpasses, the existing northbound and southbound roadways would become frontage roads. No pedestrian or bicycle facilities would be constructed.

SH 35 Overpass at Corpus Christi Street

The project limits for the overpass at Corpus Christi Street would extend approximately 0.75 miles north and south of the intersection, for a total project length of 1.5 miles. The overpass would include two 12-foot-wide lanes in each direction with 12-foot-wide outside shoulders and four-foot-wide inside shoulders. The northbound and southbound main lanes would be separated by a concrete traffic barrier. The 12-foot-wide outside shoulders would be designated and striped as an evacuation lane. Direct access across SH 35 at Griffith Street would be removed.

SH 35 Overpass at Oak Lane

The project limits of the overpass at Oak Lane would extend approximately 0.8 miles east and 0.6 miles west of the intersection, for a total project length of 1.4 miles. The overpass would include two 12-ft lanes in each direction with 10-ft outside shoulders and four-foot to eight-foot inside shoulders. The northbound and southbound main lanes would be separate bridge structures with a grassy median between them. The existing crossover at Southern Oaks Drive would be removed and a new crossover would be constructed at Resendez Road.

The projects would take place within the existing TxDOT right-of-way along SH 35. Additional ROW would not be required for either of the proposed projects.
