TxDOT is proposing to widen SH 80 from the intersection of SH 80 and SH 123 to US 181 in Karnes City, Texas.
The proposed project would widen the roadway to include a continuous center turn lane (varying in width between 14 and 16 feet), 12-foot travel lane, 14-foot outer travel lane in each direction, and six-foot sidewalks or 10-foot shared-use path. Currently, SH 80 includes an existing section with two travel lanes in each direction and a center turn lane. The roadway in this section would be widened to accommodate wider lanes and sidewalks or a shared-use path.
At the southern end of the project, from approximately 0.2 miles south of East Main Avenue to just north of the intersection of US 181 and SH 80/ SH 123, the existing two lane roadway would be widened to four lanes (two in each direction) with a continuous center turn lane, shoulders, and sidewalks.
Additionally, the roadway south of East Main Avenue was historically lowered to allow for a railroad overpass. To improve drainage in this area, the area would be filled and the roadway would be elevated.
Your input is a key part of project development. Public involvement opportunities will be provided throughout this process.
