Purpose:

The purpose of the public meeting is to gather public input on the proposed improvements to I-45 from the Galveston Causeway Bridge to 61st Street in Galveston County, Texas. The meeting will be an open house format so the public may come and go at their convenience, and staff will be available to answer questions. Comments must be received on or before Friday, April 17, 2020, to be a part of the official meeting record.

Description:

The proposed IH 45 improvements would include reconstructing and widening IH 45 from the Galveston Causeway Bridge to 61 street, and adding a direct connector from northbound 61st Street to northbound IH 45.

The proposed project would require approximately 2.8 acres of additional right of way (ROW) and potentially displace three commercial structures. The proposed project would not displace any residential structures. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program, benefits and services for displacees, as well as information about the tentative schedules for ROW acquisition and construction can be obtained from the TxDOT district office.

Materials for the public meeting will be in English. Persons interested in attending the meeting who have special communication or accommodation needs, or require an interpreter, are encouraged to contact TxDOT’s Public Information Office at (713) 802-5076. Requests should be made at least two working days prior to the public meeting. TxDOT will make every reasonable effort to accommodate these needs.

Memorandum of Understanding:

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 9, 2019, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
