Notice of Approved Schematic Available for Public Review – I-30 Canyon Improvements from I-35E to I-45/I-345

Purpose:

This notice advises the public that TxDOT has issued a Notice of Availability Environmental Clearance (Approved Schematic Available for Public Review).

Description:

TxDOT and the city of Dallas are proposing to reconstruct and widen I-30 from I-35E to I-45/I-345, known as the I-30 Canyon, in the city of Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. The proposed improvements include reconstructing the I-30 Canyon as an urban freeway with six mainlanes in each direction with discontinuous frontage roads. The project would also include ramping improvements throughout its approximate 1.6 miles between the two interchanges. The existing and proposed right-of-way (ROW) widths vary from approximately 400 feet to over 1,000 feet at the interchange with I-35E. Additionally, TxDOT proposes to restripe the eastbound lanes from I-345 to just west of Exposition Avenue, a distance of approximately 0.8 mile, to provide a transition lane. A portable concrete barrier would be removed from the I-45/I-345 interchange to just east of exit 48A/Haskell Avenue, a distance of approximately 1.2 miles. The proposed project would require approximately 2.5 acres of additional ROW and potentially displace two non-residential structures. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses.

The proposed project was environmentally cleared Dec. 7, 2020 for the next stage of project development. The project has an anticipated letting date in February 2024. Construction timeframe is not yet determined.

Memorandum of Understanding:

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable Federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 9, 2019, and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and TxDOT.
