The virtual public meeting will be available beginning on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2020, at 3 p.m. and will be available online through the comment period deadline of Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020.

Purpose:
TxDOT is holding a virtual public meeting to receive input on proposed alternatives for US 79 from west of I-45 (Buffalo) to west of FM 1512 (near Jewett) in Leon County, Texas. Two alternatives are currently being evaluated, the Existing Corridor Alternative and the Relief Route Alternative. The virtual meeting provides the public an opportunity to view project related information and provide comments on the proposed alternatives. Project staff will give a pre-recorded presentation regarding the project with both audio and visual components. Formal comments may be provided by mail or email as described in the notice. All comments must be received on or before Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2020.
Description:
Currently, US 79 through Jewett consists of two 12-ft travel lanes with 10-ft outside shoulders, and a 14-ft center turn lane. Between Jewett and Buffalo, US 79 currently consists of a two-lane highway, two 12-ft travel lanes with 10-ft outside shoulders. In rural areas, both proposed alternatives would widen the two-lane highway to a four-lane divided highway consisting of two 12-ft travel lanes with four-ft inside and 10-ft outside shoulders in each direction separated by a grassy median. The Relief Route Alternative would tie-in to existing US 79 via grade separation (overpass) intersections located approximately one mile west of FM 1512 and 0.5 mile south of CR 327. The Existing Corridor Alternative incorporates intersection improvements including the intersection at FM 39. Both proposed alternatives would provide urban improvements within Jewett. The anticipated construction letting date for the proposed project is September 2025.
The proposed project would, subject to final design considerations, require additional right-of-way and potential displacements. Relocation assistance is available for displaced persons and businesses. Information about the TxDOT Relocation Assistance Program, services and benefits for those displaced, and other affected property owners, as well as information about the tentative schedule for right-of-way acquisition and construction, can be obtained from the TxDOT district office by calling (979) 213-7591.

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated Dec. 9, 2019, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
