Purpose:

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), as the Lead Agency, in cooperation with the City of Rockdale is proposing improvements to US Highway 79 from 0.5 mile west of FM 487 (Erie Avenue) to 0.2 miles east of Highway 77. An open house is scheduled for Thursday, June 27, 2019, between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Patterson Civic Center, 609 Mill Ave. in Rockdale, TX. TxDOT staff, City Staff and the City’s consultant will display the proposed project layouts and be available to discuss the project

Description:

The resurfacing of US Highway 79 would include the replacement of existing asphalt, curb and gutter, pedestrian facilities, and various drainage improvements. Modified lane marking would improve safety and provide smooth traffic transitions. Four-lane sections would be converted to a three-lane sections, one lane in each direction with a center turn lane throughout the limits of work. The project would also include funding from the Texas Alternatives Set-Aside (TASA) program awarded to the City of Rockdale to rehabilitate and/or replace the existing sidewalks, handicap ramps, railing and lighting within the downtown area from Burleson Street to Ackerman Street (FM 487).

The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried-out by TxDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. 327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 16, 2014, and executed by FHWA and TxDOT.
