When:

Tuesday, May 7, 2019
Open House: 5 - 7 p.m.
Public Hearing: 5:30 p.m.

Purpose:

The purpose of the public hearing is to receive comments on the proposed formation of the Brazos County Regional Mobility Authority (RMA) by Brazos County (RMA petitioner). Staff will be on hand to answer questions during an open house period, followed by a formal presentation and public hearing. Comments must be received on or before Friday, May 17, 2019, to be a part of the official public hearing record.

Description:

On November 1, 2018, the RMA petitioner filed a petition requesting authorization from the Texas Transportation Commission to form the Brazos County RMA.  As proposed, the Brazos County RMA would encompass the boundaries of Brazos County and would be governed by a board of directors consisting of five members. Four of the five board members would be appointed by the Brazos County Commissioners Court, at least one (1) being a resident of the City of Bryan and at least one (1) being a resident of the City of College Station.  The fifth member, the presiding officer, would be appointed by the Governor.

The proposed initial project of the Brazos County RMA would address safety and mobility needs on a 1.2-mile section of University Drive (FM 60) adjacent to the Texas A&M University main campus between Wellborn Road (FM 2154) and Texas Avenue (SH 6 Business). This would include the construction of a 0.6-mile depressed section from Wellborn Road (FM 2154) to just east of College Avenue (SH Spur 308), capped in part with a surface built for bicycles, pedestrians, and development constructed through public-private partnerships.

Pursuant to Title 43, Texas Administrative Code, §26.12, the department will hold a public hearing on the date, time, and location indicated to receive public comments and assess the level of public support concerning the proposed Brazos County RMA.

All interested persons are invited to attend this Public Hearing and to provide input.

Local officials, their staff members and Bryan District staff will be available before and after the Public Hearing (from 5:00 to 7:00 PM) to informally discuss the Brazos County RMA formation as well as the initial project for safety and mobility improvements to University Drive (FM 60) on a 1.2-mile section between Wellborn Road (FM 2154) and Texas Avenue (SH 6 Business).
