Purpose:

The TxDOT Bryan District, in partnership with the City of Bryan and the Bryan/College Station Metropolitan Planning Organization, is hosting a public meeting to share the proposed improvements to FM 158 (William J. Bryan Parkway) from BS 6 (Texas Avenue) to SH 6 (Earl Rudder Freeway) in Brazos County, Texas. The meeting will be an open house format so the public may come and go at their convenience, and staff will be available to answer questions. Comments must be received on or before Friday, Feb. 8, 2019, to be a part of the official meeting record.

Description:

The existing typical section of FM 158 (William J. Bryan Parkway) is from BS 6-R (Texas Avenue) to SH 6 (Earl Rudder Freeway) consisting of four 12-foot travel lanes, two lanes in each direction and divided by either a 12-foot two way left turn lane until Sue Haswell Park. At Sue Haswell Park, FM 158 turns into a bi-directional roadway on both sides of the park. The roadway is bounded by sidewalks that vary from four- to six-foot on each side.

The proposed roadway consists of four 10- to 12-foot travel lanes, two lanes in each direction. The roadway would be divided by a raised median, except through the Sue Haswell Park section. Roundabouts are also proposed on each side of Sue Haswell Park. Median breaks would be constructed at several city streets and would be bounded by a 10-foot wide shared-use path on one side and a 6- to 8-foot sidewalk on the opposite side. New traffic signals and pedestrian lights would be added.  The improvements also include resurfacing FM 158 and adding new curb and gutters, storm sewers and landscaping improvements. The purpose of the project is to improve safety and mobility for all travel modes.

Approximately 0.54 acres of new right of way would be required and could potentially displace one business.
