6 p.m. Presentation
Purpose:
The purpose of the meeting is to gather public input on a possible relief route around Jacksonville. A presentation will take place at 6 p.m., followed by an open house. Staff will be available to answer questions.
Description:
The function of US 69 is to move both local and through regional traffic efficiently and safely. Previously conducted feasibility studies have found that US 69 in Jacksonville is operating at an undesirable level. Approximately 8 miles of US 69 goes directly through the City of Jacksonville. Within this 8-mile stretch there are 8 signalized intersections causing increased travel time and significantly reduced mobility. Jacksonville experiences increased congestion and decline in efficiency during hurricane evacuations. Additionally, the highest concentration of traffic accidents in Jacksonville is along US 69 in the downtown area.
The goal of the study is to provide a recommended relief route around Jacksonville with the intent to:
- Improve safety
- Mitigate congestion
- Enhance mobility
- Provide an improved hurricane evacuation route
- Protect natural and social environmental resources
A local stakeholder working group is assisting TxDOT, providing input to the project need and purpose, the identification of important environmental and planning features, the development of the route options, and the merits of the various route options.
Special accommodations: TxDOT makes every reasonable effort to accommodate the needs of the public. The public meeting will be in English. If you have a special communication accommodation or need for an interpreter, a request can be made.
