Changes at Lloyd/BU 59 intersection coming

Drivers encouraged to pay attention for new signals

NACOGDOCES, Texas – Message boards were placed Tuesday and Wednesday before the intersection of Lloyd Street and North Street in Nacogdoches, ahead of work to upgrade the signal and conduct a traffic study along the corridor.

On Monday, Sept. 29, the existing signal will change to a flashing yellow caution light at North Street, and a flashing red stop light at Lloyd Street. Drivers on Lloyd Street will be required to stop before traveling onto North Street, where cross traffic will not stop.

In early October, the signal at North Street and Lloyd Street will be removed while the foundation and infrastructure for a new signal are established and upgraded to current standards. A temporary stop sign will be placed on Lloyd Street.

“There isn’t enough space in the right-of-way to install a new signal without removing the old one,” said Tim Monzingo, Public Information Officer for the Lufkin District.

Installing the new signal will take approximately three months, after which point, a study will be conducted to analyze traffic patterns along the length of North Street/BU 59.

The Lloyd Street signal replacement is one of 32 locations being upgraded in an ongoing project across the counties in the Lufkin District.
