FM 835 bridge replacement project preparing for an October start

LUBBOCK – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is preparing to begin work on a $5.99 million project to rebuild the FM 835 bridge over the North Double Mountain Fork Brazos River, located just east of Loop 289 in Lubbock.

Project contractor Webber Construction, LLC, of The Woodlands, TX, is scheduled to place signage and stage traffic control devices along the project limits next week, with construction starting October 1.

“FM 835 drivers can expect a major road closure and traffic detoured during the majority of the project,” said Joe Villalobos, P.E., Lubbock Area Engineer. “Project plans include using an accelerated bridge construction schedule, where a portion of the structure is fabricated off-site and then ‘dropped’ into position. This type of work is expected to shorten the bridge replacement to months instead of years.”

Drivers can anticipate the bridge to be demolished and all traffic detoured around the late-October, early-November timeframe, Villalobos added.

In addition to replacing the bridge structure, construction includes making improvements to the FM 835/Olive Street intersection.

The project is anticipated to be completed in spring 2027.
