Traffic to be detoured for US 259 surface rehabilitation

Work scheduled to begin April 10

Work to rehabilitate about eight miles of US 259 in Bowie County is scheduled to start on Wednesday, April 10. Crews will be working from about two miles south of FM 561 northward to Ward Creek. Construction will require the roadway to be closed to through traffic for about 18 months.

US 259 will be closed just north of Interstate 30 to FM 44. Heavy traffic will detour to US 82. Other traffic will detour to FM 561. Message boards and alternate route information will be in place for motorists.

Longview Bridge and Road, LTD of Longview was awarded the contract earlier this year with a bid of $26,827,889. The work timeline is subject to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
