Portion of US 259 scheduled for surface rehabilitation

A portion of US 259 north in Bowie County is scheduled for surface rehabilitation soon, according to plans awarded in February by the Texas Department of Transportation.

“This project will include the rehabilitation of just over eight miles of US 259,” said Mount Pleasant Area Engineer Wendy Starkes. “This road will receive a new base, along with new asphalt concrete pavement.”

Work will take place from about two miles south of FM 561 northward to Ward Creek. During construction, traffic will be detoured around this area. Message boards and alternate route information will be in place for motorists.

Longview Bridge and Road, LTD of Longview was awarded the contract with a bid of $26,827,889.

Weather permitting, work should begin in May and take about 18 months to complete.
